McMahon Named Vice Chair of Maritime and Coast Guard Subcommittee

Position awarded based on McMahon’s strengthens and success on the House T&I Committee

Washington, DC - Today, Rep. Michael E. McMahon was named  Vice Chairman of the Maritime Transportation and Coast Guard  Subcommittee of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee (T&I) by Chairman James L. Oberstar (D-MN). 

“I am honored that Chairman Oberstar has selected me to be Vice Chairman of the Maritime Transportation and Coast Guard subcommittee,” said Rep. McMahon.  “I thank him as well as Subcommittee Chairman Elijah Cummings, with whom I am honored to be working.  Maritime transportation and the oversight of our Coast Guard are very important issues to my district and the entire City of New York.  The Port of New York, and all large ports throughout the country, are the source of revenue and jobs, which I am committed to preserving and cultivating further.”

The Subcommittee has jurisdiction over the activities of the United States Coast Guard, including its duties, organization, functions, and personnel.  It also has jurisdiction over marine transportation regulatory activities, including  regulation of vessels and merchant seaman, inspection and regulation of commercial and recreational vessels and licensing. 

Vice Chairmen were also selected today for the five other T&I subcommittees.

“Each person was selected according to his or her strengths and interests,” Chairman Oberstar said.  “Our Committee is blessed with many young, bright, energetic Members.  These were six very difficult decisions.”
