Today, the Affordable Health Care for America Act (H.R. 3962) was introduced. This bill is the new health insurance reform legislation that has been compiled and blended from the three House Committee mark-ups of H.R. 3200, which was introduced this summer. H.R. 3962 is also the version of the bill that will be debated on the House floor and ultimately voted on.

Health care reform legislation is currently taking shape in Congress. Three committees in the House of Representatives - the Energy and Commerce Committee, Ways and Means Committee and Education and Labor Committee - jointly introduced H.R. 3200, America's Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009, on July 14, 2009. The Education and Labor and Ways and Means Committees have marked-up the bill and reported out separate drafts. The Energy and Commerce is currently marking up the bill and is expected to report its own amended version of H.R. 3200 in the coming days.
During August, the amended committee drafts from each of these three committees will be reconciled, with debate and a vote by the full House of Representatives expected in the Fall.
Below is the original text of H.R. 3200. Also listed are the three House Committees websites, where you can find information about each committee's mark-up of the bill.

Health Benefits for Members of Congress:
Recently, there has been misinformation circulating that Members of the House of Representatives and Senate are exempt from the health care reform bill. Please be advised that any health care reform bill passed will affect everyone, including Members of Congress. Members of the House of Representatives and their staff have the same health insurance plans as other federal employees.
For more information on those benefits, please visit the U.S. Office of Personnel Management's website.
